Petrobras boosts output at largest refinery by 12.1%

Petrobras reported that its largest refining unit, the Paulinia Refinery (Replan) in São Paulo state, produced 17.4 million cubic meters of petroleum derivatives between January and August 2026. Data from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) showed that this volume is 12.1% higher than in the same period of 2025. In July, the facility recorded its best monthly result since ANP historical records began in 2000.

If Replan maintains this 12.1% growth rate through December, the refinery will surpass its historical annual record set in 2013, when output totaled 24.9 million cubic meters. Petrobras stated that Replan operated with an average refinery utilization factor of 94.3% in the first half of 2026, up from 88.4% in the first half of 2025.

The performance was driven by diesel, the unit's largest volume product. Replan produced 8.02 billion liters of diesel between January and August 2026, an increase of 22.1% compared to the prior-year period. In May 2025, the facility had activated a new diesel hydrotreating unit capable of producing 63,000 barrels per day of S-10 diesel, or 10 million liters daily. Petrobras CEO Magda Chambriard has committed to achieving Brazilian diesel self-sufficiency by 2030.

Replan supplies 30% of the Brazilian market and currently processes 69,000 cubic meters of crude per day (69 million liters), equivalent to 434,000 barrels per day. By comparison, Brazil's second-largest refinery by volume, Revap in São José dos Campos, processes 40 million liters daily. An ongoing expansion project scheduled for completion in 2027 will increase Replan's capacity to 459,000 barrels per day, a rise of approximately 5%.
