The Starnav Elektra begins an offshore renewal drive targeting 96 new ships.
On 18 September, Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. held the christening ceremony for the first vessel under its Mar Aberto fleet renewal and expansion program. The ship, named Starnav Elektra, is a platform supply vessel designed to support offshore oil platforms.
The vessel was built at the Detroit Shipyard in Itajaí, Santa Catarina, with an investment of around BRL 450 million. A 100% female crew navigated the ship from Santa Catarina to Rio de Janeiro, where the christening took place.
Petrobras CEO Magda Chambriard noted that these fleet investments drive fresh business cycles and optimize capital returns for the company. She stated that utilizing its own fleet saves resources and enhances the corporate portfolio.
Petrobras has already contracted 48 vessels scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026 and through the end of 2027. According to Chambriard, the state-run company expects to reach a total of 96 new units under the initiative.
