Petrobras reported on September 30 that it received new installments totaling BRL 1.03 billion under economic subsidy programs for gasoline and diesel sales.

Under Provisional Measure 1,358, the state-run company received BRL 423.7 million for gasoline sales between June 16 and June 30, along with BRL 601.5 million for diesel sales in the same period. Petrobras also collected BRL 0.6 million as a subsidy complement for gasoline marketed between August 1 and August 15 under Provisional Measure 1,359.

With these latest disbursements, the cumulative amount received by Petrobras across subsidy programs for diesel, gasoline, and liquefied petroleum gas reached approximately BRL 13.3 billion. The subsidies, established through measures such as Provisional Measure 1,363/2026, offset refinery price adjustments to keep end prices steady for distributors and consumers during external supply shocks.

The mechanism aims to narrow price gaps against international markets without triggering domestic inflation during peak crop harvesting demand. In September, crude oil prices surged 17% amid the war in Iran.
