Sanepar water bill discount starts in October

Sanepar will apply a 25% reduction to its minimum water and sewage tariff starting with billing cycles due in October 2026. Regulatory agency Agepar ordered the tariff relief after granting the utility a 30-day operational extension in August 2026 so it could adapt its commercial billing systems.

The 25% discount covers monthly consumption up to 5 m³ and will remain in effect for a term of 30 months. In a regional benchmark example, the combined minimum water and sewage rate drops by 24.79 BRL, falling from 99.16 BRL before the reduction to 74.37 BRL after the discount takes effect.

The measure is funded by a federal court-ordered debt payment of 4.04 billion BRL paid by the federal government to Sanepar in September 2025. Regulators directed 50% of these proceeds to lower consumer bills and allocated the remaining 50% to non-onerous sanitation investments, applying an annual regulatory update rate of 8.08% to the funds.
