Terpel Sunex to install 4.8 MWp solar project for Compensar

Terpel Sunex, a subsidiary of Organizacion Terpel, has agreed a partnership with Colombian family compensation fund Compensar to develop solar infrastructure across eight of its facilities in Bogota and Cundinamarca.

The project involves installing 2,633 solar panels with a total capacity of 4.8 MWp. The systems are projected to generate approximately 2.25 GWh annually and reduce energy consumption at the selected sites by around 30%.

The facilities included in the initiative are Suba, Calle 220, Calle 94, Lagomar, Lagosol, Avenida 68, Cajica, and the Central de Procesamiento de Alimentos (CPA). The companies estimate the solar generation will avoid roughly 210 tons of CO2 emissions each year, an environmental effect compared to planting about 9,000 trees.

The initiative will operate under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Terpel Sunex will fund, design, construct, and manage the photovoltaic systems, while Compensar consumes the power generated on-site without providing initial capital investment.

Mauricio Ocampo, general manager of Terpel Sunex, stated that the PPA structure converts the company's technical and financial capacity into energy efficiency and sustainability solutions. Andrés Collazos, director of the Shared Services Center at Compensar, added that the project aims to advance more efficient operations and lower reliance on the public power grid.
