Tesla delivered 95,366 China-made electric vehicles in September, marking an increase of 5% from 90,812 vehicles a year earlier. The performance represents Tesla's 11th consecutive month of year-over-year gains, following a 3.6% annual increase in August.

According to data from the China Passenger Car Association reported by Reuters on October 9, Tesla's Shanghai factory shipped Model 3 and Model Y vehicles to China, Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and Canada. Third-quarter deliveries from the Shanghai plant rose 13.7%, based on Reuters calculations. In contrast, Tesla's global deliveries fell 2.1% from the record quarter seen last year.

Tesla has introduced promotions running through October to support demand in China. The company is offering a 7,000-yuan ($1,044) reduction on final payments for selected Model Y versions, alongside a 5,000-yuan discount on every Model 3 variant.

The September growth comes amid stiff competition from domestic manufacturers. In August, Tesla's retail sales in China dropped 12.4% year-over-year to 50,047 units, which was its weakest August since 2022. Tesla ranked fifth in the Chinese market in August, trailing BYD, which led with 233,943 units. Across the broader market that month, sales of battery-electric vehicles in China edged up 0.8%, while sales of new energy vehicles, including plug-in hybrids, declined 10.1%.
