The Mexican peso appreciated 0.41% against the US dollar on Monday, October 5, 2026, closing at 18.0899 units per dollar, according to data from Banco de México. The currency recorded its second consecutive session of gains. During the day, the exchange rate reached a low of 18.06 and a high of 18.15 pesos per dollar.

In commercial banks, the dollar was quoted at 18.55 pesos at Banamex, 18.50 pesos at Banorte, 18.37 pesos at BBVA, and 18.10 pesos at foreign exchange bureaus. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which tracks the currency against a basket of six major peers, rose 0.22% to 102.15 points.

According to Felipe Mendoza, market analyst at EBC Financial Group, the main catalyst was Mexican gross fixed investment data reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi). The indicator grew 6.6% year-on-year in July, exceeding the 5.6% expected by investors, though slowing from 7.7% in the previous month. Mendoza noted that the print was supported by a 6.7% increase in private investment and an 11.5% rise in machinery and equipment imports.

The session unfolded amid global risk aversion driven by political developments in Europe following early elections called in Spain. In South America, the Brazilian real gained about 4.4% following the first-round presidential election result in Brazil.
