US stock futures hold flat as rate bets ease below 20%

Treasury yields and upcoming macro data keep markets cautious on Monday.

US stock index futures traded near flat on Monday, October 5, 2026. Investors assessed the impact of weaker labor data on Federal Reserve monetary policy. Dow Jones futures rose 0.03%, S&P 500 futures fell 0.01%, and Nasdaq futures gained 0.09%.

September employment figures reduced expectations for an interest rate hike in October. Investors now price in less than a 20% probability of an increase this month, although a move in December remains a possibility. High Treasury yields continue to curb overall risk appetite.

During the week, markets await the Institute for Supply Management September services index, the minutes from the September Federal Reserve meeting on Wednesday, and the preliminary October consumer confidence index from the University of Michigan on Friday. Corporate earnings scheduled for release include Constellation Brands, Levi Strauss & Co., PepsiCo, and Delta Air Lines, which reports on Friday, October 9.

In Europe, the euro touched a 17-month low against the US dollar following Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez calling snap elections. The STOXX 600 rose 0.19%, the DAX fell 0.05%, the FTSE 100 gained 0.24%, the CAC 40 dropped 0.80%, and the FTSE MIB added 0.23%.

In Asia, Japan's Nikkei advanced 2.40%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.28%, India's Nifty 50 added 0.42%, and Australia's ASX 200 gained 0.05%, while mainland China and South Korea were closed for holidays. In commodities, WTI crude fell 1.81% to 89.46 dollars per barrel and Brent crude dropped 1.40% to 100.82 dollars per barrel as Aramco lowered Asian crude prices to six-year lows. Bitcoin gained 1.14% to 86,404.31 dollars.
