San Diego County sued Roblox on October 6, 2026, as part of the launch of its new Consumer Fairness and Public Protection Unit. The civil action was filed in San Diego Superior Court alongside separate lawsuits against AppLovin and Polymaker.

The complaint alleges Roblox promoted its platform to parents and children as a safe environment while failing to implement adequate protections to prevent adults from posing as minors and contacting young users. The County claims predators used the platform to contact children, move conversations off Roblox, and groom them for sexual abuse, exploitation, and trafficking.

Roblox reports having about 144 million daily active users worldwide. Among the users who complete the company's age-check process, Roblox states that 35% are under 13 and another 38% are between 13 and 17 years old.

The County is pursuing claims under California's Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law. It is seeking injunctive relief to halt the alleged practices.
