Vale announced on October 9, 2026, that it notified Marcelo Gasparino da Silva, the former vice chairman of its board of directors, after sanctioning him with removal over a deliberate leak of confidential information.

The removal would have required shareholder approval, but Gasparino had already resigned from his position on July 22. According to Vale, the sanction followed recommendations from the audit and compliance board and the audit and risk committee. An investigation by an independent external law firm proved the intentional leak of internal, non-public information from a board meeting held on June 19, 2026.

Vale stated that Gasparino admitted on two occasions that he forwarded a draft of his statement and vote to an external market analyst. The company noted that all steps were conducted technically and diligently, giving him multiple opportunities to respond.
