Vivo to connect 1.4 million hectares with Cerradinho
The telecom will deploy 14 towers with 4G, NB-IoT, and LTE-M across Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul under a long-term contract.
Telefônica Brasil's operating unit Vivo announced a partnership with Cerradinho Bioenergia on October 8, 2026. The project will deploy an agricultural connectivity infrastructure featuring 14 towers. The network will deliver 4G, NB-IoT, and LTE-M coverage across the bioenergy group's facilities, with the potential to cover more than 1.4 million hectares.
Under the long-term contract, Cerradinho Bioenergia plans to digitise its production of ethanol, sugar, electric power, and animal nutrition in productive areas across the interior of Goiás state. The network will also bring internet access to surrounding communities in Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul, reaching the municipalities of Chapadão do Céu, Aporé, Serranópolis, and Costa Rica.
Vivo stated that the NB-IoT network enables fixed sensors on equipment, irrigation systems, and environmental monitoring devices. Meanwhile, the LTE-M technology supports mobile applications such as fleet telemetry, connected harvesters, and tractors.
Adriano Pereira, director of IoT, Innovation, and Big Data B2B at Vivo, noted that integrating 4G, NB-IoT, and LTE-M builds an operational base supporting everything from sensors to connected machinery, while extending digital access to neighbouring populations.
