Volkswagen recalls 258,682 US vehicles over defects

On 18 September 2026, Volkswagen Group of America filed two separate safety recalls with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The actions cover a combined total of 258,682 vehicles across the United States.

The larger campaign affects 208,724 vehicles facing a potential defect in the steering rack bolts. This group includes 85,713 Volkswagen Tiguan units, 82,601 Volkswagen Atlas vehicles, and 40,410 Audi Q3 models. Regulators estimate that roughly 1% of the recalled vehicles in this group actually contain the defect.

The second recall involves 49,958 vehicles due to an issue with the body control module software. For the 2025 Tiguan models included in this specific campaign, authorities estimate that 100% of the units have the software defect.
