YPF to buy 24.99% stake in YPF Luz for $430 million
The acquisition from BNR Power Investments takes YPF's ownership to 100%.
The board of directors of Argentine energy company
YPF approved on October 8, 2026, the acquisition of a 24.99% stake in its power subsidiary YPF Energía Eléctrica, known as YPF Luz, for $430 million. The shares are being purchased from BNR Power Investments.
The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions. Once completed, YPF will own 100% of YPF Luz's capital. General Electric joined as a shareholder in 2018, and that participation continued through BNR under GE Vernova following its spinoff in 2024.
YPF continues to grow into a world-class energy company and this transaction is another step on that path, allowing YPF Luz to accelerate growth and strengthen capabilities while maintaining its focus on the electricity sector.
YPF created YPF Luz in 2013. The unit currently operates 3.8 GW of installed generation capacity across eight Argentine provinces, which supplies approximately 10% of the country's electricity. YPF Luz reported earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization of $479 million for the twelve months ended in June 2026.
