Accenture and Google Cloud partner with Volvo Cars

Accenture and Google Cloud announced on September 22, 2026, that Volvo Cars has become the lead industry partner for Horizon. Horizon is an open-source software development platform designed to help automakers build, test, and deploy software for the Android Automotive Operating System.

As part of the collaboration, Volvo Cars is migrating its global Android Automotive software development environment to Horizon. The platform integrates cloud-native development tools, virtual testing environments, and artificial intelligence workflows into a single system.

According to the announcement, the Horizon platform cuts infotainment feature development costs by up to 40% and speeds up software testing by up to nine times using virtual Cuttlefish-based environments. It also reduces software build feedback times from up to two hours to within minutes, while enabling engineers to set up development environments in seconds instead of waiting weeks for physical hardware.

Juergen Reers, Global Automotive and Mobility Lead at Accenture, said Horizon enables a faster, more flexible, and efficient way to deliver software-defined vehicle features. Accenture, which employs approximately 799,000 people and generated about $70 billion in revenue in fiscal year 2025, plans alongside Google Cloud to expand the platform to other automotive and industrial manufacturers.
