América Móvil's Claro Perú reinforces network against El Niño

Claro Perú, a unit of América Móvil, has launched a technical and operational preparedness plan to protect its network from heavy rains and mudslides linked to the El Niño phenomenon.

To reduce outages in high-risk regions, the company deepened more than 30 optical fiber stretches across northern Peru. It also strengthened energy backup at over 400 critical base stations nationwide, installing more than 1,700 lithium battery banks and roughly 300 backup power generators.

Claro has also integrated artificial intelligence into its Network Operations Center to reroute data traffic in milliseconds if weather harms local infrastructure. Additionally, the company increased specialized field crews by 50% across vulnerable zones in northern and southern Peru, with teams placed on around-the-clock standby.

According to Juan David Rodríguez, technology director at Claro Perú, redundant optical fiber networks and proprietary submarine cables will automatically redirect voice and data traffic to alternate routes if landslides sever ground transmission links.
