Unions representing over 80% of 15,000 workers seek a 15% share of global operating profit.
Micron shares gained approximately 2.4% to $1,039.67 on September 21, 2026, as the company entered scheduled mediation over labor disputes at its manufacturing operations in Taiwan.
The dispute centers on profit allocation. Two unions representing more than 80% of Micron's roughly 15,000 employees in Taiwan are pushing for a permanent system that would allocate 15% of global operating profit to workers. When Reuters reported on the negotiations on September 15, no strike had been called, and Micron stated that it would participate in mediation in good faith.
In its latest quarter, Micron posted an 84.6% gross margin and $33.32 billion in operating income, driven by tight memory supply and strong demand for artificial intelligence hardware.
