The multi-year deal expands chip design tools and cloud services for AWS
Amazon has entered into a multi-year agreement valued at more than $1 billion with Synopsys to accelerate its custom silicon development and enhance cloud infrastructure for Amazon Web Services. The deal expands an existing 15-year collaboration between the two companies, positioning Amazon as the lead customer for Synopsys' application-optimized silicon intellectual property under a license-plus-royalty model.
Under the agreement, Amazon will broaden its use of Synopsys' silicon IP, electronic design automation tools, simulation and analysis technologies, and agentic artificial intelligence solutions. The tools will support Amazon's custom semiconductor portfolio, which includes Nitro for cloud security, network, and storage, Graviton for general-purpose computing, and Trainium for AI training and inference workloads. The companies also plan to accelerate multiphysics solutions running on Trainium and Graviton.
In turn, Synopsys will use Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, cloud storage services, and Amazon Bedrock to build and run AI applications and agents. Synopsys will also optimize its engineering software to run directly on AWS hardware.
