Air Transport Services Group will convert and fly the aircraft to replace Boeing 767s.
Amazon plans to overhaul its air logistics network by transitioning its cargo fleet from Boeing 767 aircraft to Airbus A330 freighters. Air Transport Services Group will acquire and convert 30 Airbus A330 passenger jets into cargo aircraft to support the retailer's dedicated delivery operations.
ATSG expects to begin flying the converted Airbus A330 freighters for Amazon in 2027. The shift provides Amazon with larger and more modern cargo jets capable of carrying greater package volume per flight than the older Boeing 767s they will replace.
The higher payload and range of the A330 fleet are intended to reshape how the company positions inventory for Prime and marketplace orders, particularly across longer domestic and transcontinental routes. The upgraded air fleet aligns with Amazon's ongoing capital spending in logistics optimization alongside data centers, warehouses and its cloud division.
