FEMSA Expands Bill Payments in 1,200 Pharmacies

FEMSA Salud Mexico announced the integration of payment startup tapipay and connection provider MTCenter across more than 1,200 pharmacy branches. The move expands its catalog of bill payment services throughout Mexico.

The rollout covers the YZA, Moderna, and Farmacon pharmacy chains across 13 states in the country. Customers can now complete transactions for financial services, telecommunications, education, loans, and recurring bill payments directly at the counter.

The operational structure involves three companies. Tapipay provides the technological infrastructure and supplier catalog, Mexican firm MTCenter acts as the aggregator connecting points of sale to the network, and FEMSA Salud provides its physical store footprint.

Company executives stated that the integration leverages high-frequency retail stores as neighborhood payment hubs. The strategy aims to increase customer foot traffic while serving both banked and unbanked populations in a market where cash remains the primary payment method for recurring services.
