Google powers new US federal portal America.gov with Gemini

The United States government launched a new artificial intelligence federal portal on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, called America.gov. The platform is powered by Google's Gemini technology alongside Grok, developed by SpaceXAI, formerly known as Elon Musk's xAI before its acquisition by SpaceX.

US Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia revealed the project in an interview with CNBC. The launch took place during an all-day event at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, attended by President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, other government officials, and industry leaders. The website went live around 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

The portal operates as a chatbot integrated into approximately 29,000 government websites. Users submit queries in natural language, and the system scans official public pages to deliver updated answers without consulting external sources. Gebbia noted that 40 million people interact daily with US government websites, and Google stated in a release that Gemini will help over 100 million people access essential public resources.

Google confirmed its role on Tuesday, stating it is committed to making public services seamless and accessible. Trump addressed the gathering, calling the platform a reinvention of government for the 21st century. The event also included panel discussions on artificial intelligence, energy, healthcare, space, and agriculture.
