The Ibovespa crossed the 200,000-point threshold for the first time on October 5, 2026, reaching an intraday peak of 209,605.70 points, up 9.10%. By 12:37 Brasília time, the index traded up 8.51% at 208,455.03 points. The rally followed the first round of Brazil's presidential election, in which Senator Flávio Bolsonaro received over 47% of valid votes and incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took 45%.

The election outcome prompted an immediate repricing of local assets. Brazil's interest rate curve dropped nearly 100 basis points across several maturities, while the US dollar fell as much as 5.03% to R$ 4.9540. By 12:34 Brasília time, the dollar stood at R$ 4.9926, down 4.26%, even as the global DXY index gained 0.25% to 102.185 points. Fabio Lemos, partner at Fatorial Investimentos, stated that the move lowers the cost of capital for domestic and rate-sensitive businesses, noting that the index had traded near 10 times forward earnings prior to the vote.

Nomad equity strategist Rebecca Nossig noted that early trading showed strong investor optimism toward the political backdrop. Gustavo Bertotti, economist and head of equities at Fami Capital, highlighted that legislative election results produced a right-leaning opposition presence in both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, supporting risk-taking. Bertotti added that market attention in coming weeks will center on public accounts and the credibility of fiscal adjustment proposals.

Domestic cyclical shares led index gains around 12:11 Brasília time. BTG Pactual climbed 27.42% to R$ 84.12, retailer Magazine Luiza surged 25.89% to R$ 9.58, and stock exchange operator B3 advanced 25.32% to R$ 23.81. Conversely, exporting companies slipped as the real strengthened: Suzano declined 5.12% to R$ 42.08 and Embraer dropped 4.57% to R$ 93.76.
