The fast-food chain targets restaurant upgrades, menu changes and employee initiatives to win back customers.
McDonald's is investing up to $8.5 billion in a growth push designed to bring customers back to its locations. The program, titled McDonald's >NEXT, targets upgrades across its restaurant network, new menu items and improvements for its workforce.
The capital will help modernise locations to make them more contemporary, efficient and welcoming. In addition, McDonald's plans to use the funds to introduce new menu options that encourage repeat visits.
The strategy also focuses on employees, linking the worker experience directly to faster service and a more consistent customer experience. McDonald's is rolling out the plan to adapt to changing consumer preferences and competition across the fast-food sector.
For investors, the key test will be whether the upfront spending translates into higher restaurant traffic and stronger comparable sales as the plan takes effect.
