MongoDB and Cognition launch Devin to automate migrations

MongoDB and Cognition announced on September 29, 2026, the launch of Devin for MongoDB Modernizations. The integration links Cognition's AI software engineer, Devin, directly with MongoDB's Application Modernization Platform to help corporate clients migrate legacy code and infrastructure onto MongoDB Atlas.

The tool divides migration tasks between code rewriting and data moving. Devin handles planning and rewrites business logic and data access layers, while the modernization platform moves and validates records. In early joint testing, tasks that previously took five to six hours took just over an hour.

MongoDB CEO Dev Ittycheria stated that integrating Devin into the platform expands how much of an enterprise application estate can be upgraded at once, moving workloads in months instead of years. Kosta Krauth, CTO of loyalty platform Bilt, noted that engineering teams averaged dozens of merged pull requests daily when using Devin to rebuild search and personalization features on MongoDB.

Devin for MongoDB Modernizations is now available to joint customers. Cognition, valued at $48 billion after raising more than $2 billion, provides autonomous software engineering agents, while MongoDB serves more than 70,000 customers.
