MongoDB launches Atlas Agent Engine for production AI agents

MongoDB launched Atlas Agent Engine on September 29, 2026, during its Investor Day at the Nasdaq MarketSite in New York City. The tool acts as a unified execution, memory, and governance layer designed to help enterprises move artificial intelligence agents into production without stitching together separate tools.

Atlas Agent Engine is available in public preview, featuring consumption-based pricing for Atlas Agent Runtime and Atlas Agent Memory. Usage draws against existing Atlas customer commitments rather than requiring a separate contract. MongoDB reported that more than 70,000 customers already use its underlying operational platform, including approximately 75% of the Fortune 100, with companies like Paysafe already testing the product.

The platform incorporates retrieval powered by MongoDB Voyage AI embedding and reranking models, which rank among the top performers on the RTEB benchmark. It is designed around open standards such as MCP and A2A, allowing customers to run agents across multiple cloud environments, self-managed systems, or local laptops without being locked into a single provider or AI framework.

Alongside Atlas Agent Engine, MongoDB announced MongoDB 9.0 and Atlas Infinite. The company also announced it is joining the Linux Foundation's Open Secure AI Alliance and the Agentic AI Foundation to support interoperable standards for software agents.
