Pampa Energía offers 800 MW in Vaca Muerta for AI data centers
Chairman Marcelo Mindlin presented the strategy at Argentina Week in Paris.
During Argentina Week in Paris, Pampa Energía Chairman Marcelo Mindlin highlighted the potential of the Vaca Muerta formation to supply the rising energy demand of artificial intelligence. Mindlin stated that the company already has 800 MW of power generation capacity available for a data center in Vaca Muerta.
At Pampa, we already have 800 MW of power generation available for a data center in Vaca Muerta. Just as we are adding value to gas through TGS liquids processing and our urea plant, we have the opportunity to take another step: use that energy to supply the growing demand of artificial intelligence and develop a new industry in Argentina.
Global electricity demand from data centers could expand from 176 GW in 2023 to 325 GW by 2030, nearly doubling in seven years. Electricity accounts for 40% to 60% of operating costs for data centers, making reliable and competitive power supply critical.
Pampa Energía is one of the main gas producers in Vaca Muerta and the largest private power generator in Argentina. The company noted that it has both the power capacity and the land ready to host large-scale data center infrastructure.
