Petrobras finds more oil in the Morpho well off Amapá
Drilling deeper in block FZA-M-59 reveals a second hydrocarbon interval at a water depth of 2,886 meters.
Petrobras announced on October 2, 2026, the discovery of a new hydrocarbon-bearing interval in the Morpho exploratory well off the coast of Amapá. The company encountered the oil while drilling deeper into the reservoir, following an initial discovery made at the same well in August.
The Morpho well is located in block FZA-M-59 in ultra-deep waters, where water depth reaches 2,886 meters, or about 2.9 kilometers. The drilling site lies approximately 175 kilometers off the Amapá coastline and roughly 500 kilometers from the mouth of the Amazon River.
Petrobras holds a 100% participating interest in block FZA-M-59, which it originally acquired during Brazil's 11th ANP bidding round in 2013. The company identified the new oil through electrical logs and data gathered while continuing its drilling campaign to evaluate the full potential of the area.
