Investors weighed battery timelines toward a 2029 target with PowerCo.
QuantumScape shares fell about 7% on Monday, September 28, 2026. The stock closed at $4.56 after hitting a new 52-week low of $4.54 during the trading session.
The drop occurred without any new company announcements during the day. Market attention stayed focused on ongoing cash needs and the schedule to scale solid-state lithium-metal batteries.
The company reported a second-quarter net loss of $98.2 million. For 2026, it projects an adjusted EBITDA loss between $250 million and $275 million. QuantumScape closed the quarter with $859 million in liquidity and lowered its 2026 capital expenditure guidance to a range of $27 million to $37 million. Billings reached $10.8 million in the second quarter and totaled $21.8 million across the first half of the year.
A revised agreement with Volkswagen unit PowerCo reduced potential milestone payments to $75 million, down from around $131 million. QuantumScape expects lower project costs to offset that reduction. The company plans to double cell production on its Eagle Line in the second half of 2026 and continues targeting commercial production with PowerCo in 2029.
