A new strategic investment aims to extend U.S. equities trading through the weekend.
Robinhood Markets has made a strategic investment in Bruce Markets alongside majority shareholder PEAK6 Investments. The funding will support plans to introduce continuous 24/7 U.S. equity trading, subject to regulatory review.
Bruce Markets operates Bruce ATS, an alternative trading system that facilitates overnight equity trading between 8:00 PM and 4:00 AM ET. The firm intends to expand its service into the weekend, creating a continuous round-the-clock trading venue for global investors. The company expects the new weekend session to launch in the coming months.
To support the 24/7 service, Bruce Markets will expand its use of Nasdaq trading technology. Apex Clearing Corporation, a unit of Apex Fintech Solutions, will handle custody, carrying, and clearing operations. Apex Fintech Solutions, Fidelity Investments, Nasdaq Ventures, NH Investment & Securities, tastytrade, and Webull also remain investors in Bruce Markets.
Steve Quirk, Chief Brokerage Officer at Robinhood, stated that market-moving events happen at any time, including on weekends. He noted that round-the-clock trading will soon let Robinhood customers trade equities seven days a week to manage their portfolios in real time.
