The defense contractor is targeting directed energy weapons while converting a $289 billion backlog.
RTX has formed an alliance with Xcimer Energy to explore advanced pulsed laser and fusion architectures for defense uses. The partnership aims to develop concepts that could be integrated into future directed energy weapon systems, expanding RTX's long-term offerings alongside missiles and radars.
The company also confirmed executive changes at its Pratt & Whitney division. Jill Albertelli was named incoming president following long-serving leadership, taking charge of key programs including the F135 Engine Core Upgrade for the F-35 and maintenance throughput for GTF engines.
The operational shifts come as RTX works to convert a backlog of 289 billion dollars into revenue amid heavy 2026 capital expenditure commitments, elevated debt, and supply chain expansion efforts across its aerospace and defense portfolio.
