Spotify signs $250 million podcast deal with Joe Rogan
The multiyear licensing and ad-sales agreement keeps broad platform distribution.
Spotify has secured a new multiyear licensing and ad-sales deal with Joe Rogan worth an estimated $250 million, The Wall Street Journal reported on October 8, 2026. The contract keeps terms similar to his previous agreement, allowing distribution across competing platforms while Rogan and his team retain full editorial control.
With 300 million premium subscribers, Spotify uses the show to drive listener retention and ad revenue through what it terms a halo effect on music, audiobooks, and other platform podcasts. Edison Research found that The Joe Rogan Experience reached roughly 28.4 million Americans in the second quarter of 2026, up from 6.6 million at the start of 2020. The podcast has held the No. 1 spot in Edison U.S. rankings since tracking began in 2019, boasting more than 18 million followers on Spotify and over 21 million on YouTube.
Spotify initially signed Rogan in 2020 in an exclusivity pact worth over $100 million. In early 2024, the platform renewed the partnership and broadened distribution to YouTube and other services. Jordan Newman, head of content partnerships at Spotify, told the WSJ that Rogan has built an enduring show that resonates globally. The renewal arrives as rivals such as Apple Podcasts and Amazon Music contest premium audio market share.
