The increases take effect in October across the Americas, Europe, China, and Asia.
Suzano, the world's largest producer of eucalyptus hardwood pulp, announced new price increases on September 22 across all markets where it operates. The adjustments apply to the Americas, Europe, China, and other Asian countries, according to a report by Valor confirmed by the company.
For the Americas and Europe, Suzano is lifting prices by $50 per metric ton starting in October. The previous increase of $50 was announced in April and took effect in May. In Europe, the reference price will reach $1,360 per metric ton of hardwood pulp.
In China and other Asian nations, Suzano will implement an increase of $20 per metric ton starting in October. This comes less than a month after a prior $20 adjustment in the region, where the raw material is currently trading between $570 and $580 per ton.
Analysts at Itaú BBA stated this week that the global hardwood pulp market rebalanced faster than industry players expected. Inventories fell to around 2.3 months, integrated Chinese paper producers started buying market pulp when prices reached $560 per ton, and delays at a competitor's OKI II project in Indonesia accelerated restocking.
Analysts at XP Investimentos took a more cautious stance last week, noting limited room for a sustained recovery due to weak papermaker profitability, approximately 6.8 million tons of additional integrated pulp capacity expected in China by 2027, and new market pulp projects scheduled to begin next year.
