The reductions build on more than 10,000 price cuts over the past year as shoppers watch spending
Target Corporation announced on Sept. 29, 2026, that it is cutting prices on nearly 2,000 home, apparel and accessories products. The initiative expands the retailer's value focus ahead of the upcoming holiday shopping season. This announcement builds on more than 10,000 price cuts that Target introduced over the past year.
The newest discounts apply to women's, men's, infant and toddler apparel and footwear, alongside diverse home products. Target noted that select clothing and footwear items are priced at least 20% below comparable levels from last year. Its updated bedding selection features prices that are roughly 15% lower on average.
The decision follows statements from company executives during Target's Aug. 19 earnings call, where management emphasized that value remains central to its strategy while consumers remain selective about discretionary purchases. U.S. shoppers are also facing pressure from higher gasoline costs connected to Middle East conflict.
The discounts come as rival Walmart reported in August its slowest quarterly comparable-sales growth in six years. Walmart announced price reductions on approximately 11,000 items, supported in part by $2.9 billion in U.S. tariff refunds, intensifying competition among major retailers for holiday shoppers.
