Trane Technologies announced on October 1, 2026, the launch of its first residential cold climate heat pumps under its Trane and American Standard Heating & Air Conditioning brands. The new systems include Trane's 20 TruComfort Cold Climate Heat Pump with WeatherGuard and American Standard's AccuComfort Platinum 20 Cold Climate Heat Pump with All Weather.

Both all-electric models maintain 100% heating capacity down to 5°F and operate in conditions as cold as -20°F, while also providing year-round cooling. They can operate in dual-fuel setups in homes with furnaces. The units surpassed performance standards in the U.S. Department of Energy's Residential Cold Climate Heat Pump Technology Challenge after nearly 18,000 hours of field testing across Minnesota, Montana, New York, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Texas, where temperatures reached -21°F.

The variable-speed systems provide continuous heating from -20°F to 66°F and cooling from 55°F to 115°F. Their compressors adjust in increments of 0.1%, paired with airflow algorithms that supply air at up to 110°F to reduce reliance on backup electric heat. They also feature Link communicating technology for remote diagnostics, zoning, and smart thermostat integration.

Mark Majocha, President of Residential HVAC at Trane Technologies, stated that the launch helps make home electrification practical for cold-region residents without sacrificing comfort. Both heat pump lines become available in autumn 2026, offering registered warranties of up to 12 years for compressors and up to 10 years for parts and outdoor coils.
