Aeroméxico pilots reject 3.2% pay increase offer

Contract negotiations between Aeroméxico and its pilots remain unresolved with one week left before the initial deadline to reach an agreement. The airline proposed a 3.2% salary raise, which was rejected by its captains.

The Asociación Sindical de Pilotos Aviadores (ASPA) represents 1,632 Aeroméxico captains. The union stated that the carrier has the financial solvency to improve compensation and recover purchasing power lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pilots are also seeking improvements in benefits, rest conditions, and the closure of a pay gap between two contract tiers.

Jesús Ortiz, secretary general of ASPA, noted that both parties are still far from union targets while bargaining sessions continue. The deadline to reach a deal or call a strike is the first minute of October 1, though workers are open to extensions to secure an agreement.

Aeroméxico stated that it presented another proposal aligned with wage increases in other industries across Mexico. The airline added in a statement that it remains open to dialogue and is confident that both sides will reach an agreement, even as the broader aviation sector faces falling passenger demand and jet fuel price fluctuations.
