The plan converts an old A380 site in Wales into an A321 line by the end of 2026.
Airbus is set to create 480 new jobs at its Broughton site in Flintshire as part of a significant production line investment. The plan will convert its former A380 wing production facility into an A321 manufacturing line.
The manufacturer will spend £150 million on the project. It is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026 to help address the backlog of A320 aircraft. The site currently employs 6,000 workers, and 250 of the new positions will be based directly inside the refurbished factory.
Once completed, the upgraded facility will house six wing production jigs, an equipping line, and paint shops. The move follows an earlier multi-million pound investment in the company's Belfast operations announced this year.
Jerome Blandin, head of Airbus Wing, stated that investing in capacity strengthens the industrial footprint, creates high-value jobs for the wider UK aerospace sector, and ensures long-term competitiveness.
