The retailer cited security risks after losing a similar legal dispute in August.
Amazon began blocking Meta Platforms' newly launched Muse personal AI agent from making purchases on its store. Shoppers received a pop-up notice stating that continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon's Conditions of Use.
Amazon stated that Meta never provided notice that Muse would access the platform and claimed the tool fails to identify itself as an agent. The retailer also argued that Muse can capture and store customer credentials, creating a security risk. Meta stated at the launch of Muse that the assistant has no visibility into passwords or payment methods, and it had not responded to a request for comment.
The restriction follows an August legal defeat for Amazon, when it lost an appeal in its lawsuit against Perplexity. That ruling overturned a court-ordered ban on Perplexity's Comet browser performing similar functions, prompting Amazon to evaluate its next steps. Amazon has blocked agentic tools from ChatGPT and Google Gemini since 2025 and operates its own alternative, Buy for Me.
Amazon shares rose 1.22% intraday following the move.
