Atlassian Launches AI Agent Features for Software Development
The new tools aim to coordinate, govern, and measure autonomous engineering workflows.
Atlassian Corporation announced new capabilities across Jira and DX on September 10, 2026, designed to coordinate and scale governed agentic workflows across the software development lifecycle. The rollout addresses an enterprise gap highlighted by the company's 2026 AI SDLC study, which found that while 94% of engineering leaders use AI, only 6% have systems in place to scale it across the full development cycle.
The company cited recent analysis by DX showing that teams whose AI tools used the most Atlassian context shipped roughly 64% more per developer. To ground autonomous tools in institutional knowledge, Atlassian introduced Code Context, which links coding agents to multi-repository codebases via the Teamwork Graph, alongside Agent Context Controls to restrict agent access to selected Jira and Confluence spaces.
The platform also adds autonomous agent loops in Jira to turn unassigned backlog tasks into pull requests, automated organizational standards enforcement, and an AI review agent to evaluate code before deployment. For tracking performance, Atlassian unveiled DX for Agentic Development, which monitors throughput, quality, adoption, and costs, as well as a Jira Agent Usage Dashboard to measure team delivery velocity.
Code Context is rolling out in open beta to paid customers, while agent loops, Standards, and AI Review are in private early access. Agent Context Controls and the Agent Usage Dashboard are scheduled for general availability in the coming months, and DX for Agentic Development will launch for Atlassian DX customers this quarter.
