Brisanet activates 5.5G mobile network reaching 3 Gbps
The Brazilian telecom deployed the technology in high-density areas of Fortaleza and partners with UFCG.
Brazilian telecom operator
Brisanet is using 5.5G, also known as 5G Advanced, in Fortaleza, focusing on high user-density locations such as shopping malls and the airport. Luciana Ferreira, Investor Relations Director at Brisanet, shared the details on October 7 during the Futurecom 2026 event in São Paulo.
The company deploys the 5.5G network by combining the 2.3 GHz and 3.5 GHz frequencies. According to the executive, the mobile network achieved speeds close to 3 Gbps. Brisanet is evaluating the expansion of the technology to other major urban centers in the Northeast region of Brazil, considering urban density and indoor capacity requirements.
To monetize its mobile network, Brisanet has maintained a partnership since January with Virtus, a research and development center linked to the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG) in Paraíba. The initiative is currently in the testing phase to build commercial applications for consumers, enterprises, and governments while the company continues expanding its network coverage.
