CoreWeave enters India with 240 MW Adani data center deal
The project will install Nvidia Vera Rubin chips and could expand to 480 megawatts.
CoreWeave announced on Wednesday that it will establish its first data centers in India through a partnership with AdaniConneX, a joint venture between Adani Group and EdgeConneX. The New Jersey-based artificial intelligence cloud-computing provider also plans to open an office in the country.
CoreWeave will utilize 240 megawatts of capacity at the AdaniConneX Taloja campus in Navi Mumbai, with an option to expand to 480 megawatts. The total investment is projected to reach multiple billions of dollars over the project's duration. The first data centers are scheduled to begin operations in mid-2028.
The facilities will house Nvidia Vera Rubin chips to train and operate models, manage reasoning functions, and support AI agents. The move follows CoreWeave's initial Asian expansion into Indonesia in August. Last month, CEO Mike Intrator stated that the company was largely sold out of capacity, after reporting roughly 4.2 gigawatts of contracted power in August.
AdaniConneX is also working on a large-scale Indian data center project for Alphabet's Google. A July report from Wood Mackenzie projects that data center capacity in India will grow from 2.2 gigawatts built over three decades to 12 gigawatts by 2030, with AI-specific capacity rising nearly 24-fold to 6.5 gigawatts.
CoreWeave shares fell approximately 2% in pre-market trading on Wednesday after gaining 4.95% on Tuesday.
