Eni installs Douglas CCS platform in Liverpool Bay
The network reached approximately 50% completion through a joint venture with BlackRock's GIP.
Eni installed the new Douglas CCS platform in Liverpool Bay through Eni CCUS Holding, its joint venture with Global Infrastructure Partners, which is part of BlackRock. The facility is the world's first purpose-built offshore platform dedicated to carbon capture and storage for industrial decarbonization.
The platform was delivered in less than 18 months from the contract award under an accelerated engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning program. It will receive carbon dioxide captured from industrial sites across North West England and North Wales, distributing it through repurposed offshore pipelines into depleted natural gas reservoirs for permanent storage.
The wider Liverpool Bay CCS network underpins the HyNet industrial decarbonization cluster in the United Kingdom and is approximately 50% complete. Around 60% of total project expenditure is directed toward UK-based supply chains, supporting more than 2,000 construction jobs and an estimated 200 to 300 long-term roles over more than 25 years of operations.
