Novartis partners with CAS to advance AI reaction informatics

Novartis Biomedical Research has entered into a collaboration with CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society, to improve reaction data accessibility and support artificial intelligence in drug discovery. The initiative was announced on September 29, 2026.

The project will apply data transformation services through the CAS Intelligence Hub to organize and standardize Novartis' collection of experimental reaction data. This process aims to make internal assets stored across electronic lab notebooks, reports, shared drives, and partner platforms ready for computational research, machine learning, and AI applications.

Under the agreement, researchers at Novartis will gain integrated access to their internal findings alongside more than 160 million scientist-curated reactions from the CAS Content Collection. CAS and Novartis will also develop a custom discovery platform based on the CAS SciFinder architecture, enabling researchers to search and cross-reference both datasets simultaneously while laying groundwork for large language models and agentic AI.
