Roche unit Genentech begins $750M plant expansion in Oregon

Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, broke ground on September 28, 2026, on a $750 million expansion of its manufacturing facility in Hillsboro, Oregon. The project advances plans announced in August to increase capacity for advanced drug delivery devices and strengthen United States production capabilities. Commercial operations at the expanded site are scheduled to begin in 2031.

The project adds 211,000 square feet to the existing 75-acre campus, doubling its size. Once completed, the facility will introduce device fill-finish capabilities, including combination products, across oncology, neurology, and immunology treatments with flexible high- and low-volume filling.

The expansion will create approximately 250 high-wage manufacturing jobs in roles combining traditional production with artificial intelligence, automation, and robotics, alongside approximately 200 construction jobs. Genentech established the Hillsboro campus in 2006.

The investment builds on recent manufacturing milestones in Holly Springs, North Carolina, and Boston, Massachusetts. Across the United States, Roche and Genentech employ approximately 25,000 workers across 15 research and development centers and 13 manufacturing sites.
