Verizon Communications announced on September 29, 2026, the election of Charles Phillips to its board of directors, effective immediately. Phillips is co-founder and managing partner of Recognize Partners LP, a private equity firm that invests in technology services businesses.
The addition of Phillips brings the Verizon board of directors to 10 members. CEO Dan Schulman highlighted his experience across technology, financial and regulatory sectors, noting that his perspective will support innovation and shareholder value.
Phillips has led Recognize since January 2020. Before that, he served as executive chairman of enterprise software provider Infor from 2019 to 2020 and its CEO from 2010 to 2020. He was also president of Oracle Corporation between 2003 and 2010, after spending seven years as a managing director in Morgan Stanley's technology group from 1996 to 2003. Earlier in his career, he served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Phillips also sits on the boards of American Express, Bloomberg LP, Compass Inc., the Apollo Theater, and the Council on Foreign Relations. New York-based Verizon reported revenues of $138.2 billion in 2025.
