Sodimac, a subsidiary of Grupo Falabella, announced on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, that it acquired a majority stake in Colombian industrial distributor Sumatec. Sumatec has more than 70 years of history and focuses on technical supplies for industrial maintenance, repair, and operations across 14 retail points in 11 Colombian cities.

The transaction was executed by purchasing shares from Grupotec, the holding firm owned by Sumatec's founding family, alongside a direct capital injection into the company. Grupotec will retain a minority stake to build a long-term partnership.

Alejandro Arze, general manager of home improvement at Grupo Falabella, explained that the purchase is part of Sodimac's regional growth strategy to develop complementary formats and reinforce the group's ecosystem. Arze noted that Sumatec will bolster the Venta Empresa business-to-business segment and create commercial, operational, and cost synergies.

Sumatec will continue to operate under its own brand. In Colombia, Sodimac has operated for more than 30 years alongside its majority partner Corona through the Homecenter Sodimac Corona retail format, which has 42 physical stores.
