GAP reports a 6.7% drop in Mexico passenger traffic
Seat capacity cuts and Hurricane Polo reduced September 2026 passenger traffic across Mexican and Jamaican airports.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico announced preliminary passenger traffic figures for September 2026. Across its 12 Mexican airports, passenger traffic fell 6.7% compared to September 2025. Tijuana recorded a 12.1% decline, Puerto Vallarta dropped 10.4%, and Los Cabos fell 7.5%.
The company attributed the contraction primarily to reduced seat capacity offered by airlines, particularly within the domestic market. In addition, Hurricane Polo brought adverse weather to the Mexican Pacific region and Baja California Sur late in the month, which partially disrupted operations at Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos.
Domestic drops were led by routes connecting Puerto Vallarta with Tijuana and Monterrey, Los Cabos with Guadalajara, and Tijuana with Guadalajara. International traffic saw its largest declines on flights from Los Cabos to Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, as well as routes from Puerto Vallarta to San Francisco and Phoenix.
In Jamaica, passenger traffic fell 16.6% at Montego Bay Airport and dropped 3.8% at Kingston Airport compared to September 2025. Across the network, available seats fell 7.2% year over year, while the load factor rose from 80.7% to 81.0%.
