Meta Platforms has banned advertising from ByteDance and its short-video platform TikTok across its services in seven countries, as reported by Reuters on October 8, 2026. A spokesperson for Meta confirmed the measure, which restricts the rival platform from buying ad space in major markets including the United States.

The restriction directly targets a key competitor in the digital media market. TikTok currently counts 200 million users in the United States, where the platform competes directly with Meta's video products for audience attention and marketing budgets.

The advertising ban arrives as social media companies navigate intense regulatory pressure. In August 2026, Meta agreed to an 18 billion dollar settlement with U.S. states over legal claims regarding youth mental health on its platforms.
