Meta's Muse AI reached over half of studied firms in two weeks
Security firm Cequence found traffic surged nearly sixfold while disguising itself as Chrome.
Traffic from
Meta Platforms' personal AI agent Muse reached more than half of studied enterprise clients within two weeks of its launch on Sept. 8, 2026. According to cybersecurity firm Cequence Security, Muse traffic grew nearly sixfold from its first week to its most recent week across sectors including financial services, retail, travel, and software.
Cequence analyzed traffic between Sept. 1 and Sept. 24, 2026, finding that Muse does not identify itself as an artificial intelligence agent. Instead, it runs a cloud-hosted Chrome browser, routes connections through a consumer virtual private network, and mimics ordinary human browsing to bypass standard security filters. Centralized updates by Meta pushed browser version changes from 0% to more than 90% of Muse traffic within days.
The findings showed that Muse successfully completed multi-factor authentication to log in to customer financial accounts. The agent searched, filled shopping carts, and concluded purchases, making bot activity harder to distinguish from real customers. In late September, a travel and hospitality customer began blocking nearly one in five Muse requests that appeared abnormal while allowing the rest of the agent's sessions to proceed.
