Three core claims over alleged data scraping are allowed to move forward.
Reddit shares rose 4.5% to $157.64 during trading on September 21, 2026. The market reacted to a favorable ruling in the platform's legal fight against artificial intelligence developer Anthropic.
On September 18, 2026, a ruling found that Reddit provided enough evidence to show Anthropic is contractually bound by Reddit's User Agreement. The ruling upheld three legal claims brought by Reddit.
The court dismissed two claims with leave to amend. Reddit alleges that Anthropic scraped its site at least 100,000 times after being instructed to stop accessing its data without authorization.
The decision supports Reddit's commercial strategy of protecting and monetizing its user-generated content. For context, the company signed a content licensing agreement with Google in 2024 valued at 60 million dollars annually.
