Mirgor cuts over 100 plant workers in Tierra del Fuego

Argentine manufacturing conglomerate Grupo Mirgor dismissed more than 100 workers across affiliates in Río Grande, Tierra del Fuego, on September 30, 2026. Staff arriving for a shift change found their access cards blocked at plant turnstiles.

The terminations ended a voluntary conciliation process with the Unión Obrera Metalúrgica (UOM). Talks had previously stalled on August 25, 2026, after Mirgor cut 300 workers earlier that month.

Ushuaia Mayor Walter Vuoto stated that the company issued 130 dismissal notices, including the entire union delegate body. He called on Mirgor management to reverse the dismissals and resume discussions with the UOM.

The conflict unfolds amid local economic strain. Tierra del Fuego Governor Gustavo Melella recently agreed on an advance financing package of up to ARS 45,000 million with the national government.
