Companhia de Saneamento Básico do Estado de São Paulo (Sabesp) stated that water samples analyzed in Itapeva, located in the interior of São Paulo state, comply with drinking standards set by the Ministry of Health. The statement was released on October 8, 2026, following a surge in viral infections in the municipality.

According to the utility, samples were collected directly from the Water Treatment Station (ETA), storage reservoirs, and multiple points across the local distribution network. The company stated that it continuously monitors water quality from treatment through distribution.

The city government of Itapeva reported on its official website that it is analyzing epidemiological data, including case locations and possible links between patients. Meanwhile, the São Paulo State Department of Health informed CNN Brasil that the Center for Epidemiological Surveillance (CVE-SP) is monitoring the rise in acute diarrheal diseases and awaits local municipal data to guide further investigation.
